One month into the Movement Control Order (MCO), the authorities note that many excuses are still being given when people are caught breaking MCO rules.

Among the excuses include heading to the ATM late at night to withdraw money.

We’ve been notified that due to these ATM machines being operational 24 hours, many are going out at night on the pretext of an emergency.

As such, Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that 24-hour ATMs will no longer be allowed to operate.

New operating hours for ATMs follow MCO business hours rule of 8am – 8pm.

Those caught defying the MCO without a valid reason will be subject to a RM1,000 compound or arrest under Section 24 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342).

Any person found guilty under this Act is subject to a fine or no more than 2 years imprisonment for the first offence. The punishment increases to 5 years imprisonment or a fine for subsequent offences.

Phase 3 of the MCO is expected to end on 28th April.
