Part of Malaysia’s battle plan against the Covid-19 pandemic is the conversion of the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) in Serdang into a makeshift hospital for infected patients.

Asia’s largest agropark is now known as Covid-19 Low-Risk Patient Quarantine and Treatment Centre, a quarantine and treatment centre that can accommodate up to 604 low-risk patients who display mild symptoms of the virus.

The endeavour is coordinated by the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) with the assistance of the Health Ministry, the Malaysian Armed Forces, the Fire and Rescue Department, the Civil Defence Force, the Social Welfare Department and the Public Works Department.

According to Bernama, the facility will be ready to receive low-risk Covid-19 patients from around the Klang Valley, Melaka and several areas in Perak very soon, as soon as the coming week.

In fact, the Health Ministry even shared that several pre-operational preparations were carried out in the second week of April, including:

  1. Report Duty for clinical and non-clinical staff at the center
  2. Staff training
  3. IT training for staff
  4. Fire Drill simulation

  • Resuscitation rooms
  • Clinical services
  • Emergency care
  • Pharmacy services
  • Basic X-ray services
  • Pathology laboratory services
  • Ambulance

Besides that, facilities such as WIFI, CCTV, patient lounge, fitness room and prayer rooms are also available in the makeshift hospital.

The scale of this Covid-19 centre is quite impressive, especially considering that it took only 4 days for the empty expo halls to be transformed into a medical facility.
