3 Teachers Used Social Media To Help Their Students’ Families Sell 500kg Of Sweet Potatoes

Residents of Kampung Orang Asli Lemoi in Cameron Highlands, Pahang, are often farmers selling their produce as their main source of income.
Since the movement control order (MCO), they have found it difficult to sell any of their fresh produce- in this case, almost 500kg of sweet potatoes.
Three teachers at Sekolah Kebangaan Lemoi, worried for their students and their families, helped to share the word on social media platform Twitter. Cikgu Hanisah Mat Hussin, Nor Mahidatulasma Yusof, and Wan Zamani Wan Musa promoted the sweet potatoes on their personal accounts.
Since her post, the orders came flooding in for the sweet potatoes. Soon enough, all 500kg of sweet potatoes were bought by customers from all over the country.
The teachers then took it upon themselves to sort orders and deliver the sweet potatoes via post.
With our national postal service, PosLaju. Yep. Didn’t think you could mail sweet potatoes with PosLaju, did you? Well, we didn’t think so either, but evidently you can.
The teachers mentioned that they’re overwhelmed by the support shown to them when all they wanted to do was to help their students’ families. The school is situated in a relatively rural area, so the teachers and the residents grew closer.
We used the hastag ‘kitajagakita’. We may not be able to help everyone, but at least we could do something for those people around us.
