MOH Urge Employers To Protect Foreign Workers During Pandemic

The Malaysian Health Ministry (MOH) wants companies to keep their foreign workers’ health and safety in check during the global Covid-19 crisis.
Health Director-General Datuk Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said that employers must take precautions to stop a viral cluster from forming among foreign employees.
The DG explains that companies must abide by guidelines provided by the authorities to protect workers such as conducting health checks and maintaining social distancing practices within the work environment as well as reminding employees to do the same at home.

Out of the 5,251 Covid-19 infections detected in Malaysia, 601 of the cases reported involved foreign nationals consisting of tourists, foreign workers, and refugees.
MOH is currently cooperating with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to ensure that refugees and those seeking asylum in the country are taken care of during the pandemic.
Reportedly, according to the Immigration Department, there are more than 1 million registered foreign workers employed in numerous industries across the nation, while numbers provided by the Department of Statistics (DOSM) show that as of 2019, there were more than 3 million foreigners staying legally in Malaysia.
