Schools To Remain Closed, Exams Postponed Or Cancelled

Schools are to remain closed, rather indefinitely, until the nation recovers from the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Ministry of Education (MOE) announced that classrooms nationwide would remain empty until the country is convinced that situations have returned to normal and that the safety of our children is secured.

Examinations postponed/canceled
Though the 2020 academic calendar is to proceed as scheduled, MOE declared the cancellation of this year’s UPSR (Standard 6) and PT3 (Form 3) exams.
The ministry explains that the cancelation of the tests would not have an impact on student appraisal and overall school results – understandably, results from both the primary and secondary level exams would essentially determine a student’s qualification for the next stages of their education.
MOE says that a brand new evaluation system will be used to grade students based on “other†means.
Meanwhile, the 2020 Form 5 SPM, and SVM exams, as well as the Form 6 STPM and STAM semester finals, have been postponed.
This year’s SPM and SVM examinations will be moved to the first quarter of 2021’s academic year, while the STPM second and third-semester finals will be pushed to August 2020 and the first quarter of 2021, respectively.
STAM tests will also be moved to the first quarter of 2021.
College intakes
With exams now pushed forward, MOE together with the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) has decided to freeze intakes of tertiary students to the nation’s colleges, universities, and institutions.
Intake for foundation, matriculation and diploma courses would be suspended till July or August 2021, and degree courses would only be open in September or October that same year.
On a side note, the ministry adds that the public would be given 2-weeks notice if schools are to reopen and that faculties would have to abide by strict protocol and guidelines provided by the authorities.
