Free Face Masks Now Being Handed Out To Malaysians

Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) is distributing free face masks to Malaysians living in the city.

With face masks and other personal protective equipment (PPE) in short supply across the world due to the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, the government had promised to give away more than 24 million face masks to members of the public.

Previously, Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that every household would be receiving a total of 4 masks each, and priority would be given to those who are visibly sick.

Some 1 million masks have already been handed out to homes and shelters across KL.

Notably, experts at the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Malaysian Health Ministry (MOH) have repeatedly advocated for the use of PPEs like surgical face masks to be used only by those exhibiting flu symptoms to mitigate the spread of the outbreak and not have the disposable items go to waste.

Despite this, masks have become the hottest accessory of the year.

No one needs masks and PPEs more than frontliners tasked at managing the Covid-19 pandemic, so use your masks sparingly.

The MOH also strictly recommends everyone practice essential hygiene and social distancing to keep ourselves and our communities safe from infection.
