Penangites Caught Violating MCO, Drinking Outside Temple

To combat cabin fever, some Malaysians have to turned to spiritual substances to tide them over this movement control order (MCO).
A group of seven, including two women, were found drinking alcoholic beverages outside a temple in Penang on Thursday.
North Seberang Perai district police chief ACP Noorzainy Mohd Noor told reporters that the group claimed that they were bored at home. Since many shops were closed, they decided to gather and drink outside the temple.
A separate group of four teenagers were caught drinking air ketum in Butterworth as well. They attempted to escape from police but were eventually cornered.
Another group of six men were also found drinking in a field in Bagan Ajam.
All of them were aware of the MCO, but they chose not to comply.

In total, at least 24 people were arrested for violating the MCO within the Seberang Perai district. All violators were detained under Regulation 11 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Disease Regulations 2020, Section 269 and Section 186 of the Penal Code.
