By now, you should already know who Mak Cik Kiah is, but now you can meet her robot counterpart.

“Makcik Kiah 19” or MCK19 is the first Malaysian-made delivery robot that can help frontliners to deliver services to Covid-19 patients.

The robot is a collaboration between Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM) UKM and DF Automation and Robotics Sdn Bhd (DF).

UTM said the usage of robots such as MCK19 will reduce the risk of exposure for frontliners dealing with patients under investigations (PUI) that can be highly contagious and decrease the need for personal protective equipments (PPEs).

The university added that support has been given including from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Information, the Ministry of Health as well as the Ministry of International Trade and industry.

These robots are expected to be tested at HCTM at the end of the week and the DF said they will mass produce the robots to hospitals nationwide if the machines are proven useful.

MCK19 is a modified commercial robot made by DF named Zalpha that can carry loads up to 300 kg in its shelves and is able to navigate autonomously to assist doctors or nurses in delivering food or medicine to a patient’s room.
