The second phase of the Movement Control Order (MCO) is critical to determine if Malaysia succeeds in combating Covid-19.
According to the Health Director-General (DG) Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah the following weeks are crucial to see whether actions taken by the nation in response to the pandemic were effective at managing the viral plague.
The DG clarified that Malaysians play a vital role in flattening the infection curve and putting a stop to the outbreak as the public is directly responsible for breaking the chain of infection with appropriate quarantine and social distancing measures as well as correct hygiene maintenance.
The doctor also explained that statistically, 2 specific age groups have been identified with the highest recorded infection rate in the country being, 26 to 30-year-olds and those between 56 and 60 years of age.
Dr Noor Hisham says that for the younger cases, it’s likely that the infected came from groups of students returning home from overseas or those who regularly go out and disobeyed quarantine orders.
While the latter group of patients included heads of the households who were probably infected while venturing out for supplies during the MCO.
The following weeks would also determine if the current MCO period set to end on April 14, would be extended.
Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob was quoted as saying that the length of the MCO would depend on how Malaysians abide by the rules that are put in place.
The ones who can make sure there will be no 3rd phase, 4th phase and we can celebrate Hari Raya as usual are you, the people… If we continue to comply with every directive and SOP issued by the government, I believe we need not worry about an extension of the MCO.Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob as reported by Malay Mail
