In order to kill the seemingly endless hours of boredom brought by the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic and the Movement Control Order (MCO), the Sarawak state government is taking a digital step to entertain and encourage its youths to #dudukrumah during the nationwide quarantine.

Sarawak’s Youth and Sports Ministry together with the Sarawak E-Sports Association (SESA) is hosting a grand online gaming competition, aptly called the Sarawak Youth Stay At Home Esports Challenge.

All you hungry hornbills out there eager to take part should know that there’s gonna be 2 different tournaments, for 2 different games, on 2 different gaming platforms; FIFA 20 for Playstation 4 and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) for mobile phones.

The online tournament is open to all Sarawakian youths aged 15 to 40-years-old, beginning April 10 to 13 and contestants must have their own devices and internet connection to take part.

Gamers will get a chance to test their skills and compete with one another for a cash prize pool of over RM10,000.

With more and more people being quarantined at home and as physical sporting tournaments and events around the globe are being canceled or postponed due to the pandemic, it looks like the world is turning to video games for its much-needed enjoyment.

Twitch, the world’s largest livestream platform for video gamers recorded an increase in global viewership by 12% (that’s 1.40 million people…) in March alone.
