Even after the COVID-19 crisis has ended, the government thinks that it’ll take at least six months for Malaysia’s economy to recover from the debilitating effects of the coronavirus.
The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Economy) Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed said the estimated period was reasonable with the support of the right strategies.
He mentioned during an interview with Bernama TV that the coronavirus has badly affected sectors including tourism, hospitality, retail and investment.
Tok Pa also commented on small and medium enteprises (SMEs), as he said that the government is willing to discuss with some of these businesses as well as micro-entrepreneurs who felt left out of the economic stimulus package.
He added that although big in numbers, SMEs represent 60% of the local workforce and the government is always open to them.
