Certain areas in the state of Selangor could be placed under a full lockdown or an Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

An EMCO basically means that all residents in the designated zones are not allowed to leave their homes entirely, and businesses would be ordered to close.

According to the Director-General of Health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, Selangor currently has the highest distribution of infections in the country.

The DG said that the authorities have identified “one or two” areas in the state that could be placed under a full lockdown as a means to curb the spread of the viral plague.

As of the moment, 7 villages in Hulu Langat, Selangor and 2 kampungs in Simpang Renggam, Johor have already been placed under the EMCO following escalating Covid-19 cases in the areas.

Separately, Cheras in Kuala Lumpur and Jerantut in Pahang are now classified as “orange” zones after ongoing spikes in infections.

Previously, Kepong and Klang were designated as Covid-19 red zones after recording among the highest cases of infections in the country.
