Who Is The Health Director-General And Why Does He Seem So Competent?

In Malaysia, Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah has been the Director General of Health since 2013.

He has worked with three different Ministers of Health, namely Datuk Seri Dr. S. Subramaniam Sathasivam (2013-2018), Datuk Seri Dr. Dzulkefly Ahmad (2018-2020), and Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba (2020-present).

Dr Noor Hisham is also a trained surgeon with a Master’s degree in Surgery and a Doctorate of Medicine from UKM.

Later on, he specialized in endocrine surgery and practiced at universities in Australia. Since then, he has published numerous articles in medical journals on endocrine surgery.

He also chairs the Global Surgery Subcommittee of the International Society Of Surgery (ISS) for an appointed 5 years (2017-2021).

In the Malaysian Ministry of Health (MOH), the post of Health Director-General is as a Ministery Executive under the Deputy Minister. The Health Director-General is in charge of all the individual Health Departments of the different states, including the Deputy Director-General posts.

Currently, the Ministry of Health is working together with the National Security Council to contain the COVID-19 pandemic within the country.

Dr Noor Hisham has been in the news a lot more often recently as he is handling the COVID-19 pandemic together with the Minister of Health, previously with Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, now with Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba.

In most recent news, Dr Noor Hisham politely disagreed with the current Minister of Health’s claim that the novel coronavirus can be “flushed into the stomach with warm water“.
