Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow has announced that all businesses in Penang can only operate from 6am to 8pm starting Wednesday, 25 March 2020.
The new time limit applies to all essential businesses that are open now, including the wet markets.
This comes as an additional step to the movement control order (MCO) the country already has in place.
Penangites have continued to throng their local wet markets such as the Air Itam market despite authorities asking them to maintain a one-metre distance.
However, certain wet markets on Penang island have quickly changed their policies to control the crowd with limited entry and temperature checks, such as the Juru wet market.
