MCO May Be Extended, To Be Confirmed On 30 March

Avatar

Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin announced that the National Security Council (NSC) will decide whether it is necessary to extend the movement control order (MCO) past the original date of 31 March 2020.

The NSC will be looking at the data of COVID-19 cases during this time period to determine if there has been significant enough improvement.

During this period, the NSC will also need to determine improvement with cooperation from all parties, especially those from the tabligh gathering.

Over half of all confirmed COVID-19 cases and 60% of deaths are related to the tabligh gathering, so it is essential that all related people are traced properly.

Malaysians have shown progress in social distancing. The Royal Malaysian Police have reported that up to 90% of Malaysians are complying with the MCO. However, there are still a small number of Malaysians who openly defy the MCO and wander around outside anyway.

The NSC has confirmed that once the data is analyzed, they will hold a meeting to decide if the MCO needs to be extended next Monday, 30 March 2020, a day before the original ending date.
