A Handy Guide To Having Safe Sex During COVID-19

Human urges do not respect things like the Movement Control Order (MCO) or, in extreme cases, regular decency. It’s not uncommon for people to start thinking about sex when they’re bored and alone- which a lot of people currently are.

What’s important to note is that you can still have sex- but make sure you’re safe while doing so.

According to the New York City Health Department, COVID-19 has not yet been found in semen or vaginal fluid.

Historically, other coronaviruses are not efficiently transmitted through sex, which means that we could probably assume the same for COVID-19.

Instead, the novel coronavirus spreads via droplets from the mouth, such as when an infected person coughs or sneezes, or through direct contact with their saliva or mucus.

The virus has been found in feces of infected people, however. So if you or someone you live with may have COVID-19, it is essential to always flush with the toilet lid down and to wash your hands every single time.

The New York City Health Department goes one step further to recommend masturbation instead of sex with another person to keep any possibility of infection contained.

They urge the frequent washing of hands and toys with soap and water before and after usage. And while you may want to use hand sanitizer as lubricant to be extra safe, the high alcohol content in hand sanitizer can cause irritations and burns on the sensitive skin in your intimate areas.

If you must have the contact of another human body, consider having sex with people you live with or have very close contact with already. However, while step-sibling porn is a very popular category, please don’t do that.

Even if you may be lonely, it might be a good idea to refrain from casual sex with strangers at this point. Instead, sexting is recommended, but do refrain from sending unsolicited dick pics, otherwise you may find yourself facing a lawsuit instead.

Use protection at all times. Wear masks and gloves when you go outside, condoms when you come inside. There’s no excuse to be sloppy during the pandemic.

If you or your partner are not feeling well, avoid sex and especially kissing. Self-quarantine and get to know your hand intimately instead.
