Aggressive Mutated Covid-19 Strain Responsible For 70% Of Cases

Avatar

Researchers at Peking University’s School of Life Sciences and the Institut Pasteur of Shanghai found that there has been a mutation in the Covid-19 coronavirus strain.

The new mutation accounts for roughly 70% of analyzed strains, while 30% is linked to the less aggressive mutation strain.

The more aggressive mutation strain is now called the L type, while the less aggressive strain is called the S type.

It’s highly probable that the frightening speed at which Covid-19 spread during the early stages of the outbreak in Wuhan was due to the L type coronavirus.

However, its ferocity seems to be short-lived as the frequency of this aggressive strain has decreased since January.

The scientists are cautious to say that data on the Covid-19 is still very limited, emphasizing a need for follow-up studies with a larger set of data to make a surer conclusion on the evolution and epidemiology of Covid-19.
