You know it, we know it, everyone knows it.

The planet is in danger.

Plastic waste is poisoning the environment as we navigate through the climate crisis upon us.

While we try our best to lessen the impact by saying no to plastic straws and single use plastics, a Malaysian student took it one step further…

She designed a bag using recycled plastic bottles!

Armed with 9.5 litre plastic water bottles bases, 20-year-old college student Ang Li Qin created a chic sling bag that she calls “Scum-bag”.

The clever pun perfectly encapsulates how one’s scummy trash can be transformed into a fashionable treasure.

Li Qin told Malay Mail that she wanted to create something helpful that anyone can use. Hence, a portable and super useful bag!

We’re not the only ones impressed by Li Qin’s creativity though. Her trendy creation also caught the eye of the Spritzer Natural Mineral Water “Eco Art Competition” where she won the GRAND PRIZE!

Li Qin’s “Scum-bag” landed her the top spot in the competition along with RM5000 and an internship with the water manufacturing and distribution company.

Turns out, the Eco Art Competition took place earlier this month for Malaysian university and college students to recycle and upcycle Spritzer mineral water bottles in the most creative and functional way.

Looking at the finalists’ work on Spritzer’s Facebook page, it’s clear that Malaysian students are SUPER creative. Here’s some our favourite inventions:

The Plastic Throne

A Capsule Vending Machine

This Cute Little Terrarium

Use Plastic to Organise Your Plastics

A Pretty DIY Nightlight

Congratulations to Li Qin for her impressive win!
