The highway concessionaire reportedly is in the midst of upgrading its nationwide infrastructure which is set to be completed by the end of the year.

The new payment option will allow users to connect their credit or debit cards directly to the radio-frequency identification (RFID) toll payments systems attached to their vehicles.

(if you have it installed that is…)

This payment option will be an addition to current toll payment methods like the Touch ‘n Go (TnG) card, SmartTAG and the TnG eWallet system.

PLUS managing director Datuk Azman Ismail said that the upgrade serves as a bid to reduce congestion at toll plazas.

Azman states that the major contributor to traffic jams are due to road users having insufficient balance in their TnG cards when commuting.

Meanwhile, PLUS is currently upgrading the highway’s CCTV system to ultra-high-definition (UHD) cameras.

The upgrade also comes with the installation of high-tech video analytic software providing more accurate traffic data across its highways.

This would allow PLUS to relay better traffic information instantly to its users across the board.

Fingers crossed for fewer traffic jams in the coming years…
