Man jumps off Penang ferry to escape wife

Being married is tough… Dealing with so many pressures coming from all sides of the spectrum, both internally and externally can sometimes push people to the brink of insanity.
This was surely true for one man who unfortunately decided to take a quick plunge off of a ferry in Butterworth, Penang after supposedly being tired of his “queen control†of a wife.
The 36-year-old man had attempted to take his own life by jumping off the back of the moving Rapid Ferry service just as it was nearing the Butterworth coastline at sometime around 7 pm on July 18.
According to reports, apparently, the man had first taken a bus from Kuala Lumpur to Butterworth before taking a ferry bound for the island city of Georgetown.
After boarding the ferry at Butterworth, the man then stayed on the boat throughout its journey from Butterworth to Georgetown and then back to its original port in Butterworth. (possibly contemplating his decision…)
It was then that the distraught husband decided to take his leap into the great blue beyond, but was thankfully rescued shortly after his dive.
Upon questioning it was determined that guy who had been married for a course of a decade and having two children, could no longer stand the tension and strain caused from the constant bickering and fighting he had with his charming wife.
Supposedly, the couple were also riddled with financial problems due to a slump in business.
After the incident, the man is said to be in stable condition and referred to a professional psychologist for further treatment.
There had been no word on where the wife was and had been at the time of the incident.
The case is currently being investigated under Section 309 of the Penal Code for attempted suicide, a ruling that most Malaysians find archaic and rather detrimental to society.
Though it’s easy to speculate that the number of suicide cases in Malaysia is made up of lonely single people, in truth it is quite the opposite.
According to the National Suicide Registry Malaysia which came out back in 2007, showed that a significant number of suicide cases in the country were committed by persons who are married.
Data showed that married men attributed to 50% of the suicidal death rates in the country where only 29% of married women had taken their lives during the course of the study.
Moreover, numbers based on the 2008 NSRM report showed that suicide deaths among married couples lingered at 43.1% and the report that came out in 2009 notes 151 reported cases of suicide among those who are married.
