Last night, Family Mart caught the attention of folks online.

Not for the ridiculously cheap bubble tea, but because of a vandalism video that took place at their Nilai store.

The video showing a teenager smashing food items, messing up the display, opening packaged food, even taking a sip from a bottle and putting it back had the internet up in arms.

As the teenager ravages the food shelves, voices can be heard saying “Buat hal… buat hal” (causing trouble) and “Kau kena bayar, tahu kan?” (You know you have to pay, right?)

Posted on the Instagram account of @luqbubbles (Luqman Hakeem) as a story, the incident which took place at MesaMall in Nilai made rounds on Twitter and Facebook.

There were many, MANY angry comments.

Comment translations:

Comment 1: “He thinks it’s funny but he didn’t think of the employees who will have their salary cut to pay for all of this. People work to get money and he’s messing with their livelihoods. Kids who want to be famous are like this lah. How dumb is he? To the max!

Comment 2: They didn’t feel anything but the staff will have headaches when customers complain about the squashed food.

Comment 3: Thank goodness this went viral. The staff are saved.

Comment translations:

Comment 1: Come I make his face viral, then all the Family Marts will ban you. I want Family Mart to claim damages from him.

Comment 2: Can see his face clearly. Make a police report. Don’t know what kind of behaviour this is… terrible.. where’s your manners?

Comment 3: I hope someone will take action and punish this boy. There’s a way to joke. This isn’t joking around, this is stupid.

Soon after receiving backlash, Luqman posted a follow up a story saying that he bought all the items he smashed while his friends mocked “haters” and laughed in the background.

The internet didn’t buy his explanation.

He then deleted all his pictures and shared an apology video of him standing outside the Family Mart store last night.

“I’d like to apologise to the netizens who were uncomfortable by my actions. I’m at Family Mart and I’m going to apologise to all the workers here today. I want to take responsibility and pay for the damage I made. I won’t do it again.”

Again, the internet was unimpressed. Scrolling through the comments, it seems like people didn’t think his apology was sincere.

There’s been no update since the apology video but this incident just goes to show how important it is for us to be civic minded people.

Many of the comments to his video called out his childish, inconsiderate behaviour and its effect on the employees.

If you want to have fun kids, go ahead. Just be responsible.
