5 easy ways to feel like a true boss (even if you’re not)

You’ve budgeted, you’ve saved, and now you want to treat yourself- but somewhere, deep in the back of your mind, you might be feeling just a little guilty about spending your hard-earned money.

While it’s true that you should limit unnecessary expenses, there are some affordable “luxuries” that are entirely justifiable and more importantly- encouraged.

We’ve listed five short-term investments that you should prioritise whenever you can, to give you that extra little boost in life.

Massages

Many people are too quick to dismiss massages as a luxurious once-in-a-while pampering, but it actually should be a regular part of your lifestyle for health reasons. Chances are, you probably never realise how much you need one until you get one. Pro tip: you always need one.

Regular massages help reduce anxiety, headaches, and insomnia, among other stress-related symptoms. It also helps relieve chronic pain, especially for those with sports-related injuries.

The increased blood circulation helps your body heal, and you may not realise how much stress you hold in your shoulders and neck until a masseuse kneads the pain away.

Many massage parlours are now rather affordable and offer discounts for returning customers. Try it out if you haven’t already!

Be prepared for a wonderful night’s rest and a clear, fresh mind the day after!

Good quality shoes

This is especially important for those who are on their feet all day. A good pair of quality shoes fits, protects, and comforts your feet.

Bad shoes cause all kinds of pain, from the ball of your feet to your calves, to your knees. You may get heel spurs (an outgrowth of calcium) that is not easy to diagnose and would require medical imaging.

The long-term and potential chronic injury is just not worth it. Even if you see super cute shoes, if they’re not comfortable and a good fit, you should walk away.

PSA: trying to walk while you’re in pain makes you look ridiculous, no matter how cute your shoes are!

Good pillows and mattress

A good night’s rest is entirely underrated. You can be having a much better sleep than you are currently having, which would do wonders for your energy and mood.

Pillows can last a maximum of 3 years, but if it has gone flat or lost its support, you can easily swap it out for a new one.

The best mattresses can last up to 10 years, but it really depends on the quality and make of your mattress. If your mattress has started to sag or become lumpy, you should certainly consider changing to a new one.

Sleep is the only time for our bodies to rest and heal, so it’s critical to maintain good quality rest every night. It’s never worth it to give up a good night’s rest!

A just-for-you professional hair style

Enough of cheap passable “it’s okay” haircuts. A really good haircut can work magic and change lives and bring you from an 8 to an 11. Everyone has a suitable style that makes them just pop.

If you’ve been feeling dissatisfied or tired, a suitable fresh cut can instantly transform you. It’s critical that you talk to a professional stylist or barber first to find out the best look and style for you!

Don’t be afraid to try new hairstyles to find a good style too. You may have stuck to the same hairstyle all your life and feel comfortable with it, but it honestly may not be the best look for you. Experiment!

Quality tea/coffee

If you drink tea or coffee on a daily basis, investing in better brands can immediately change your life.

Sure, it may be a little expensive in your grocery budget, but it’s so worth it. Make sure you stay away from 3-in-1 packets of coffee or flavoured tea drinks, which often have a large amount of sugar and additives.

Instead, invest in the good stuff, and reap the benefits of antioxidants such as polyphenols in your daily cuppa.

Fresh tea and good coffee perks up your mood to get you ready for the day, and in our busy daily lives, any help is good help.

These small investments may seem frivolous at first, but the long-term benefits far outweighs the temporary financial cost. Never hold back on improving your quality of life as it helps increase your happiness, contentment, and overall health.

Besides, you work so hard to make money to spend it on worthwhile things, and investing in yourself should be the top priority!
