No more hidden flight charges starting June

Splendid news for those of you inflicted with wanderlust.

Starting this June, all commercial airlines
operating in the country are required to display the final airfare price on all
point of purchase locations as well as all promotional and advertising materials.

The Malaysian aviation Commission (MAVCOM) today announced an update to the Malaysian Aviation Consumer Protection Code 2016 (MACPC), as reported by The Star.

Gone are the days of hidden baggage
charges, vague administrative fees, and other mysterious troublesome costs that
usually creep up on you out of nowhere.

Now, what you see is what you pay!

The new set of rule requirements is
also poised to make refunds a breeze, as airlines and travel agents are
required to provide a full refund – including all passenger service fees and other tax and charges – to all passengers who are unable to make
their flights (providing that the request is made within 30 days).

Even non-refundable ticket passengers are permitted
to gain a refund on paid airport tax, and airline companies are only allowed to
charge customers a maximum of 5% for the processing fee.

MAVCOM additionally announced the launch of FlySmart, a one-stop information portal for where consumers can gain access to information on all air travel related matters as well as a submit and track their complaints in one easy access channel.
