There are so many home remedies for illnesses and we’ve all been told to just “drink more water” and sleep it off when we’re feeling under the weather.
But the worst thing about falling sick is needing to drag your sick self to the nearby clinic for a MC and spreading more germs everywhere.
User @lmao_ais took to Twitter recently to start a discussion about this.
malaysian employers need to stop requiring MCs for sick leave. making a sick employee leave the house to prove they’re ill is counterproductive. it’s a terrible use of time, energy, and money.— yung berhormat lmao ais 🍋✨ (@lmao_ais) May 13, 2019
They go on to mention that trust should be given regarding sick leaves.
if your first rxn to someone telling you that they’re sick is “i don’t believe you, prove it/come in to work anyway” you’re a sociopath— yung berhormat lmao ais 🍋✨ (@lmao_ais) May 13, 2019
Fellow Malaysians chimed in to agree.
Agreed. Most of the time I just need sleep and get proper rest in bed. And when I have the energy to go to the clinic at night, the doctor won’t give me MC cus it’s too late. It’s really bs.— nalisa alia amin (@nalisaaa) May 13, 2019
Setuju. Sometimes you’re just having a flu or demam. Telan panadol dan tidur dah cukup. Instead kena pergi klinik dan doktor charge 50 – 80 for nothing.— Aqmal (@aqmalbaik) May 13, 2019
Some even said that seeing a doctor for mild illnesses would be a waste of the doctor’s time.
And wasting doctors’ time when they could be attending to patients with more serious problems. All to satisfy bureaucracy rather than to prioritise health.— Nine (@supernowoczesna) May 14, 2019
Of course, there are those that believe MC requirements are justified in fear of abuse.
How is it not a problem if you have employees not showing up under the pretense they’re sick? It’s affecting productivity and other teammates as well. While i do agree the system could be broken, not admitting this method can potentially be abused is wrong as well.— Fade Fan Johnny (@JohannAffendy) May 13, 2019
I like how everyone here just turns a blind eye over how employees abuse mc…we are probably the only country who made taking mc a culture…malas kerja? MC..saw a long holiday? MC planned ady…ppl should stop pretending as if they never ever took a fake mc before…— Navindran (@Navindran5193) May 14, 2019
Regardless of which side you’re on, drink water and stay hydrated, folks!
…Or discreetly cough on your boss’s desk.
