Back in March, Malaysia’s homegrown cosplay, anime, and manga community took a nasty hit due to immigration issues.

However another group have stepped up to organize a new event for this weekend called AniManGaki-Chan (or AMG-Chan).

Taking place at Quill City Mall, this event is going to be a “gathering for enthusiasts, fandoms, and followers to celebrate all things geeky.”

So for two days the mall will be filled with costumes, exhibits, guest appearances, stage performances, and other activities.

You can get your tickets either at the door of the event or purchase them directly from their website.

When looking at events like these, the question on a lot of minds is why do people cosplay?

We asked local cosplayer Ciara Cross this exact question.

“I cosplay because I get to dress up and touch more on my creative side. Bringing the character, I’m cosplaying to life is a real joy! It helps me express myself in many ways I never knew before.”

Turns out there’s more to cosplay than just having a costume.

“I learn a lot of things in Cosplay, such as make-up, and wig styling.”

To find out what her current and future cosplay plans look like, you can check out herInstagram, or have a look at an interview she did about herself and cosplayhere.

If you want to see Malaysian cosplayers yourself, you can head to Quill City Mall this weekend.
