SEREMBAN, 23 March 2017:
The Negeri Sembilan state government plans to implement the electronic parking system or e-parking for areas administered by the Seremban Municipal Council (MPS) and the Nilai Municipal Council (MPN), next year.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said the new system would replace the manual payment system currently being used.
With the e-parking system, he said users would be able to make payment for the parking fee using their mobile phones via the application provided and they could add it on at any time and this would help ease their daily affairs.
“We expect both the MPS and the MPN will implement this new system, the latest by the end of next year.
“This new system is seen to help increase revenue for the local councils up to 60% in the parking sector compared to the current manual payment system as the revenue (with e-parking) will then be channelled directly into the councils’ accounts without going through the operator company.”
Commenting further, he said the current payment method used was seen to bring losses to the parking operators and many of them have gone bankrupt due to losses incurred in their operations including vandalism to parking metres.
“However, with the new (e-parking) system we no longer need an operator, and local councils will only need to buy the application and will then pay an annual royalty to the company that develops the application.”
