KUALA LUMPUR, 29 March 2016:
A man met a fiery end when his BMW car caught fire at a Touch n Go lane of the Sprint Expressway toll plaza near Damansara here early today.
Petaling Jaya district police chief ACP Mohd Zani Che Din said the victim was believed to be sleeping in the car with the engine running when the mishap occurred at 5am.
“According to the workers at the toll plaza, the car stopped at the Touch n Go lane at around 4am and the man got out and moved to the front passenger’s seat and fell asleep.
“The workers tried to wake him up, but the car was locked and all the windows rolled up…about an hour later, the car’s engine caught fire.”
Mohd Zani said police were in the midst of identifying the victim and based on records, the car was registered to an owner in Taman Canning, Perak.
Selangor Fire and Rescue assistant director Mohd Sani Harul said they received the distress call about the incident at 5.19am and arrived at the scene at 5.25am.
“The car, as well as two toll booths were totally destroyed in the mishap,” he said, adding that they managed to put out the blaze completely at 5.31am.
