KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 11, 2016:
The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) today wrapped up its hearing session with former 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) chairman Tan Sri Bakke Mohd Salleh and former Chief Executive Officer Datuk Shahrol Azral Ibrahim Halmi.
Following this, the PAC is making preparations for the tabling of the final report from the Auditor-General’s Department on the Finance Ministry-owned strategic investment arm between Feb 24 and 25.
“We will only consider calling more witnesses after the tabling of the report if it is extremely necessary to help the committee obtain information to produce the PAC report in relation to the administration of 1MDB to Parliament,” PAC chairman Datuk Hasan Arifin said in a statement today.
He added the Press conference on today’s proceedings which had been scheduled to be held tomorrow had been cancelled.
Hasan said the current priority was to hear the report by the Auditor-General which had earlier been scrutinised by many quarters.
“PAC will hear the final report and complete its report to be tabled in Parliament transparently and fairly.”
The Rompin parliamentarian also urged the public to place its confidence in PAC’s transparency in preparing its report which would be tabled in Parliament soon.
He said this was because the taskforce also comprised members of the Opposition which was why the final report should not raise doubts among members of the public.
