CALLING all electronic dance music lovers and budding club musicians! An intimate couch session and party with British broken beats maestro Kidkanevil will take place at Apex Lounge of Zouk KL on Mar 4 at 8pm.
Organized by Red Bull Music Academy (RBMA), the lecture series and after-party session is aimed to encourage and inspire homegrown music talents to participate and take the world stage, by applying to RBMA (see details below).
These events are also a build-up to the month-long Red Bull Music Academy Montreal 2016 where lecture sessions, curated signature concerts and parties will be held.
Hailing from London, Kidkanevil a.k.a Gerard Roberts is known for his unique mix of street music and geek culture. His music progression was a natural one, sparked by his obsessive love for hip-hop, anime original soundtracks, and computer game music.
As an alumnus of RBMA where small group of music students are handpicked and nurtured , Kidkanevil ‘graduated’ in 2010 and he is equally comfortable in churning Kaiju-sized beats and delicate electro acoustic soundscapes.
To date, he has produced four solo albums. One of his most notable piece is the collaborative project ‘Kidsuke’ alongside visionary Japanese producer Daisuke Tanabe. He also co-produced the epic Stateless album ‘Matilda’ for Ninja Tune, released an official beat tape tribute to American electronics pioneer Raymond Scott and produced a number of tracks for UK rap giants Foreign Beggars.
In Kuala Lumpur, the lecture session will conclude with a performance where the public will get to see Kidkanevil perform. Doors open at 11pm and standard charge applies.
Local support for the Club Night comes from Akhyla Records’ first signed female act and rising star in the Malaysian bass scene, Fatim Guzel and prominent beats producers Emir Hermono x Fliko.
Previous alumni or artists that have given lectures and performed in Kuala Lumpur include TOKiMONSTA, Daedelus and Bok Bok.
