SETIU, Feb 9, 2016:

Police detained two secondary school students on a motorcycle after they rammed their machine into a traffic policeman in Bandar Permaisuri yesterday.

Setiu district police chief Deputy Superintendent Elias Abu Bakar said in the incident at about 5.30pm, the victim, Inspector Wan Zulkuflay Wan Mohamad, 55, was with other police officers when they stopped a car for a traffic offence at a traffic light junction in Bandar Permaisuri.

He said when the other officers were issuing a summons, a motorcycle with the two students, both 17, arrived from the direction of Bandar Permaisuri heading towards Kuala Terengganu.

“The victim lifted his hand to stop the motorcycle about 50m from the junction for not observing the correct traffic flow, but the students did not stop. The student who was riding the vehicle picked up speed and rammed into the victim,” Elias said.

He said this caused the victim to fall on to the road, resulting in slight injuries on his palms, right elbow and pain in his right shoulder.

He said the two youths were detained.
