KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 5, 2016:

The ringgit opened higher against the US dollar prompted by a weaker dollar amid speculation that the US Federal Reserve would increase interest rates this year, analysts said.

At 9am, the local unit was traded at 4.1270/1325 against 4.1505/1555 yesterday.

Against other major currencies, the ringgit was traded mostly lower.

It fell versus the Singapore dollar to 2.9487/9545 from 2.9442/9495 yesterday and eased against the yen to 3.5337/5393 from 3.5245/5297 yesterday.

The local unit, however, rose against the British pound to 6.0143/0244 from 6.0726/0816 but depreciated against the euro to 4.6247/6325 from 4.6199/6267 yesterday.
