KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 4, 2016:
The future of Umno would be affected if the government made decisions without considering public sentiment, claimed Umno deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
Following the resignation of Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir as Kedah Menteri Besar (MB) due to the recent political crisis, Muhyiddin said that it would be hard for Umno to gain back the public’s trust when people feel betrayed.
“They might have forgotten that Umno is a political party that depends on the people’s support to remain relevant.
“If a certain decision is taken without considering the sentiments and needs of the majority, then I am afraid for the future of Umno,” the former Deputy Prime Minister said in a statement late last night.
Muhyiddin then claimed that the people were aware of the actual reason behind Mukhriz’s removal.
“I believe the people are aware of the reason why Mukhriz was ousted. It was due to the demands of blind followers,” he claimed.
“Due to political pressure, he had to resign from his post as the Menteri Besar. I believe that not only are the people of Kedah upset, but also the rest of Malaysia.
“The days of democracy are over. It seems as if the wants of a certain party overwhelms the wants of the majority,” he added.
Mukhriz announced his resignation in Alor Star yesterday after it was said that he had lost the support of the majority of assemblymen in the state.
He was succeeded by Bakar Bata assemblyman Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah who was sworn-in today at Istana Anak Bukit in Alor Star.
