Newly-installed Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah admitted he felt slighted after a photo of him allegedly dozing off at an event went viral on social media.
He said even though there were some social media users who were paid for political campaign purposes, he should not have been insulted as such.
“I am hurt. They shouldn’t insult people like that,” he said, adding that even if one was paid, one should not resort to insulting any individual in that manner, referring to the fact that the photo focused on the part where he had his eyes closed.
Speaking about his education background, he said even though it was a personal attack, he did not mind it.
“The trust from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is based on experience, I will carry out my duties honestly,” he said at a press conference at the Istana Anak Bukit, here, after the swearing-in ceremony.
Meanwhile, commenting on former Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir’s cynical remark that he not fall asleep during the swearing-in ceremony, Ahmad Bashah said he took that as a personal attack.
“I don’t mind personal attacks. But I will carry out my duties. Maybe in time I will stop responding to personal attacks because that is part and parcel of the political game, it exists anywhere.
“As an old-timer in politics, I don’t mind. What is important is I want to bring change to Kedah with the support of the state’s officers at the state and federal level.”
Meanwhile, he expressed confidence that Mukhriz would give support as a member of Umno.
“If he loves Umno, he will return because he is an Umno man,” Ahmad Bashah said.
Commenting further on the reshuffling of the state executive council, Ahmad Bashah said the matter would be announced in the near future.
Apart from that, Ahmad Bashah said he was confident that the Prime Minister who was scheduled to visit Kedah tomorrow would help in bringing about change to the northern stae.
“He (Najib) gave assurance that he would help Kedah. Today I am confident in old friendships, I know the PM. I am confident he will help in bringing change for the rakyat in Kedah.
“He (Najib) will be coming to Sungai Petani to Kulim, maybe there is something,” he added.
The Bakar Bata assemblyman said with what Mukhriz had worked on before, they would continue it, God willing.
“Why would we stop it?” he asked.
