BUDGET indie hit Cruel Intentions is getting a sequel, this time focusing on Bash Casey, the son of original characters Sebastian and Annette.
Based on French novel Dangerous Liasons, the 1999 film starred Reese Witherspoon, Ryan Phillipe, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Selma Blair in a spiderweb of high school manipulation and romance.
By the end of the film, Phillippe’s character Sebastian had made good on its opening premise, successfully seducing the chaste Annette, journaling his progress in a memoir, but dies protecting her from an oncoming car.
The TV pilot, ordered by NBC, continues 15 years later, as Bash Casey discovers the scandalous journal as Sebastian’s stepsister, Kathryn, tries to control both him and the family’s corporate business.
Writer and director Roger Kumble returns, as does the film’s producer Neal H. Moritz; they team with the pair behind musical parody Cruel Intentions: The Musical, THR notes.
