Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir made an honourable move by relinquishing his post as Kedah Menteri Besar, said newly-installed Umno Information chief Tan Sri Annuar Musa.
Annuar said Mukhriz made the appropriate move that was correct in terms of practice and taking responsibility over the situation.
“These posts are made by appointments by the party’s leadership and are based on their support.
“The (Umno) leadership had also taken into account the effectiveness of the leader in question and had obtained the necessary feedback, and so the process (to remove Mukhriz) had been determined by the party constitution,” he told The Rakyat Post when contacted today.
The Kedah political stand-off ended this morning with Mukhriz announcing his resignation as Menteri Besar with immediate effect.
Mukhriz said the decision was made after he lost the support of the majority of state assemblymen.
Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah, who was widely predicted to succeed Mukhriz, was expected to be sworn in as the new Kedah Menteri Besar tomorrow after the state’s Regency Council had consented to his appointment.
Annuar added Mukhriz had also made a sacrifice for the betterment of the party in the state.
“Perhaps what Mukhriz was facing was a test that was determined by the Qada and Qadar (divine will and decree), and the move was made after taking into account many factors,” Annuar said, adding Mukhriz had shown courage in facing the ordeal.
