“Hopefully Ahmad Bashah will not fall asleep during the swearing-in ceremony.”
These were the words of Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir to Kedah’s future Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah when asked by reporters to comment following the former’s resignation this morning.
Mukhriz, however, made the remark jokingly, to which those present at the press conference at Wisma Darul Aman here, clapped.
At the press conference, Mukhriz announced that he had to step down following a loss of support from a majority of the state’s assemblymen.
However, the Ayer Hitam assemblyman noted he would not remain silent.
“I will not keep silent. Politics is in my blood. If the rakyat wants me, of course I will continue their fight.
“With me no longer being Kedah Menteri Besar, there will be more room for me to speak up. Beware. Umno is at a weak point right now,” he added.
It was also said that Bakar Bata assemblyman Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah would take over as MB.
The matter was announced by Kedah state secretary, Datuk Bakar Din, also at Wisma Darul Aman.
