PASIR MAS, Feb 2, 2016:
Umno veteran Tan Sri Hussein Ahmad said Umno was a gift from God to the Malays to unite them.
“Only one thing I would like to say, Umno is a gift from God for the Malays to unite. After this, I want to see all the Malays united,” he said.
A former Umno Information chief, Hussein weighed in on the Kedah Menteri Besar crisis when asked by reporters, saying that what was happening in the northern state right now had been expected and those involved should be held responsible.
He claimed that those involved were Umno leaders themselves.
“It has been expected that this will take place in Kedah. We need to remember that in Kedah, Umno lost before, Penang has fallen into the hands of the DAP, Terengganu had fallen to PAS while Kelantan, even until now, has yet to be reconquered by Umno.
“I believe this is the ‘sin’ of former Umno leaders, causing Umno to lose power. It is caused by the leaders and this is not only happening in this country, but also around the world,” he said during a visit by new Umno information chief Tan Sri Annuar Musa to his house in Kampung Lemal today.
Hussein, known as “Hussein Serama” at one time, also considered the appointment of Annuar as Umno Information chief as appropriate.
Hussein said he had long suggested to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to appoint Annuar, who is expected to do the job well.
Meanwhile, Annuar told the media that the issue of the Kedah Menteri Besar should be handled prudently.
He said the Prime Minister did the right thing by meeting with Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, the Kedah Regency Council and the King before taking any decision.
“I am confident that the issue will be resolved in the best way by the Prime Minister and the Kedah people ,” he said.
Commenting on his new position, Annuar said he had yet to officially start work.
He will be meeting with former Information chief Datuk Ahmad Maslan and and Information Minister Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak before meeting his staff at the Umno building here.
