PKR says it will continue to support the current Kedah state leadership under the administration of Menteri Besar (MB) Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir.
Party president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said that stand was taken after it saw no valid excuse to replace Mukhriz with another candidate.
“Any decision to remove a Menteri Besar for any state must be based on a valid reason.
“In the case of Kedah, there is no valid reason given to drop Datuk Mukhriz as Menteri Besar apart from political competition within Umno.
“On that reason, in our view, we will continue to support the current administration. PKR respects the constitutional process that determines the Menteri Besar commands a majority in the state assembly,” she said in a statement today.
It had been two weeks since Kedah had faced an MB crisis, but to date, no solution had been made since 14 Kedah Umno chiefs pleaded to the Prime Minister for a change in leadership.
A similar MB crisis took place in Selangor in 2014 called the “Kajang Move”.
The move saw previous Selangor MB Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim replaced with Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali as MB sometime in Sept 2014.
The change in leadership also led to a crisis of Selangor’s water restructuring.
