KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 2, 2016:

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) remained adamant in presenting the final 1MDB report by month-end.

Its chairman, Datuk Hassan Arifin expressed his disappointment today in referring to an online report by The Malay Mail Online (MMO) that claimed the National Audit Department has failed to complete the report that was scheduled to be presented by month-end.

“PAC is disappointed over the irresponsible report by the news portal, The Malay Mail Online, that quoted unnamed sources on allegations that the department has failed to abide by the deadline to present the audit report to the committee by February.

“The baseless and irresponsible report clearly aimed at damaging PAC’s reputation and credibility but the National Audit Department is committed in auditing to ensure the transparency and accountability of 1MDB for the rakyat’s welfare,” he said in a statement today.

Earlier today, the news portal, published a story quoting unnamed sources and alleged the National Audit Department’s failure to complete the final audit report of state investment-arm, 1MDB.

Hassan, who is also Rompin MP, urged the people to have faith in the committee, as it has members from various parties including the opposition parties.

In the statement, Hassan also expressed disappointment with the Switzerland Attorney-General (AG) who has provided information to media practitioners without prior discussions with relevant quarters.

“Issuing statements in the newspapers can lead to speculation,” he said.
