KUNG Fu Panda 3 stormed straight to the number one spot in its opening weekend, dominating the global box office and pushes The Revenant into second place.

The third instalment in the Fox animated franchise, which features the voices of Dustin Hoffman, Jack Black and Angelina Jolie, took US$116.7 million (RM484.8 million) worldwide during the weekend ending January 31, Rentrak reports.

Leonardo Dicaprio’s latest blockbuster The Revenant, which has the actor hotly tipped for Oscar glory, lagged behind, taking US$36.7million (RM152.7 million). It was followed by Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which continues to enjoy box office success after weeks at the top and this week made US$23.38 million (RM97.1 million).
