KOTA KINABALU, Feb 1, 2016:
A mother accidentally ran over her four-year-old daughter and three others, including a teacher, after dropping her off at her preschool in Taman Seputih, Luyang, here, this morning.
The girl, identified as Megan Wong Shi Ting, succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the KPJ Hospital, here.
Three others, comprising two preschoolers aged 3 and 4 and a 25-year-old teacher, suffered injuries and were traumatised by the incident.
City police chief Assistant Commissioner M. Chandra, in disclosing this today, said the woman had just dropped off her daughter and was looking at her walking to the school compound with a teacher and several children when she hit the paddle, without realising that she had not changed the gear to reverse.
“Investigations revealed that the car jerked to the front, hitting the three children and a teacher. The victim was pronounced dead at 10.10am, about 40 minutes after the accident. One of the children suffered injury to the hips and the other is traumatised.
“The teacher whose hip was broken also suffered internal abdominal bleeding.”
He said initial investigations revealed that the accident was caused by the driver’s carelessness, but added that police would further investigate the case under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
