KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 29, 2016:
The Umno Supreme Council has apparently given a “clear” indication that Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhkriz Mahathir will be dropped from his state liasion committee chief’s post.
Special Affairs Department (Jasa) panel member and Kluang Umno division information chief Datuk Lokman Adam said this was in light of Mukhriz’s unwarranted attendance at the council’s meeting here today.
“Unfortunately, although uninvited, Mukhriz still attended which forced the secretary-general to instruct those who were not invited to leave the meeting.
“Mukhriz’s stubbornness is seen as an attempt to gain sympathy to make it appear as though he was chased out.
“Perhaps many do not realise that Mukhriz is not actually a Supreme Council member, but had the status of an attendee as liasion chairman.
“If the president wants a new chairman, he loses eligibility to enter Supreme Council meetings again,” he said in a statement today.
Lokman said the meeting today saw the party making a minor reshuffle to consolidate its election machinery.
Tan Sri Anuar Musa, who is Ketereh Umno division chief, has been appointed as the party’s new information head, replacing Datuk Ahmad Maslan who has been appointed its Information Technology Bureau chairman.
“Ahmad has also been appointed as a Supreme Council member to fill the vacancy which was once offered to Uztaz Kazim Elias.”
The membership and voter registration bureau chairman’s position which was held by Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal will be filled by Datuk Seri Azeez Rahim.
Azeez’s post as Welfare Bureau chairman will be taken over by Datuk Samsul Anuar Nasarah.
To ensure better attention to the younger generation, former Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia president Datuk Razali Ibrahim has been appointed as the new Private Institution of Tertitary Education Bureau chairman.
“Emphasis is also given to Malaysian students overseas through the formation of the Umno Overseas Students’ Bureau which is chaired by Datuk Sri Reezal Merican Naina Merican,” said Lokman.
He added Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Johari Ghani had also been appointed as Umno Economic Bureau chairman.
