KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 28, 2016:
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom is satisfied with the Budget 2016 recalibration as the allocation for the Department of Islamic Development (Jakim), totalling some RM1 billion, has not been changed.
He said the allocation was needed to maintain allowances for mosque Imams, religious school teachers and religious district officers, channelled to the states.
“The remaining allocation would be used for Jakim’s administration,” he told The Rakyat Post after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak announced the Budget 2016 recalibration at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre here today.
On Jakim’s efforts to combat terrorism and extremist ideologies, Jamil, who is in charge of religious affairs in the Prime Minister’s Department, said that this would be done according to the government’s National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS).
“We will work together with the Home Ministry, Wisma Putra and other relevant agencies, especially the authorities involved in addressing the matter.
“This means that we will not be working alone in handling this (effort) but will work together with the agencies and ministries involved,” he said.
