KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 28, 2016:
A Malaysian student died tragically following a motorcycle accident in Chitradurga, India yesterday.
The victim identified as Uthaya Kumar Selvaraj, a student from the Malacca-Manipal Medical College (MMMC), was reported to have been riding along with his local friend, Muhammad Suhail Muneer.
The two were part of the United Riders Udupi (Karnataka) motorcycle club, based in India.
According to Uthaya’s friend and neighbour, Loganathan Krishnan, the duo were apparently making their way from Chitradurga to Manipal when they were believed to have collided with a bus.
“They were on their way back to Manipal from a 300km ride. He (Uthaya) was riding pillion because his motorcycle had broken down last week,” he said when contacted by The Rakyat Post.
He said the accident came as a shock for the victim’s friends and family and formalities connected with his death were being attended to by his friends and batch mates in India.
He added that Uthaya’s parents would be leaving for India tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Wisma Putra in a statement confirmed the incident, stating that the officers from the Malaysian consulate in Chennai and Public Service Department would be going to the Chitradurga Government Hospital to facilitate the claiming of the third-year scholar’s remains.
Additionally Uthaya’s friends here in the country have initiated a donation drive to help the victim’s family in their efforts to reclaim their loved one.
