KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 28, 2016:
Congress of Unions for Employees in the Public and Civil Service (Cuepacs) expressed relief after hearing the announcement of the Budget 2016 revision by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
“It’s a relief because what was said before this and what went viral before the Budget revision did not happen, such as ending employee contracts, pay cuts for public servants, among others.
“Cuepacs says thank you to Datuk Seri Najib (Razak) for keeping his promise,” said its president Datuk Azih Muda when contacted by The Rakyat Post.
He said the revision was good news for public servants.
“New policies announced this time, such as limiting the buying of houses costing RM300,000 to first time buyers, will give opportunities for public servants to own their own homes.
“With this policy, the goal of the government to help those less able to buy their first homes will be a reality,” he said.
However, Azih stressed that Cuepacs felt a little bit uneasy with the 3% reduction in Employees Provident Fund contribution as it will make it difficult for public servants after their retirement.
“Cuepacs hopes this proposal is only implemented for a short time because if it is to continue, retirement funds will decline.”
