KUCHING, Jan 27, 2016:

Sarawak police are to focus on reducing the number of housebreaking and theft cases this year.

This follows the state having recorded 140 of these cases in the first 26 days of this year, up from the 61 cases during the corresponding period last year.

Sarawak CID chief Dev Kumar M. M. Sree Shunmugam said the state recorded 1,278 cases of housebreaking and theft last year, a drop of 244 cases from the number reported in 2014.

Most of the cases occurred in Kuching, Miri, Sibu, Bintulu, Padawan, Kota Samarahan and Sarikei, he said.

Dev Kumar said the police launched ”Ops Pintu” last week to slash the number of such cases, and yesterday arrested two men believed to have been involved in at least 10 cases of housebreaking and theft.
