JOHOR BARU, Jan 27, 2016:
Four more bodies of Indonesian illegal immigrants were found washed ashore at Pantai Sungai Tengah in Kota Tinggi here today.
The bodies, found by the search and rescue (SAR) team at 7am, were believed to be from the victims who drowned when their boat sank in the waters of Tanjung Balau in Kota Tinggi yesterday.
The victims were believed to be illegally returning by boat to Indonesia.
Kota Tinggi district police chief Supt Rahmat Othman confirmed the discovery of the four bodies and said police are still investigating.
“We received information that four more bodies were found at the location in Pantai Sungai Tengah this morning,” he said today.
On Tuesday morning, the drowned bodies of 13 illegal immigrants were found floating in the Tanjung Kelisa beach area in Kota Tinggi.
It was learnt that the victims’ boat capsized after being hit by rough waves off the coast of Bandar Penawar the night before as they illegally made their way out to Indonesia.
Initial findings revealed that the 13 Indonesian nationals comprised of nine women and four men.
