KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 26, 2016:
Pakatan Harapan will unanimously reject the Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA), says Bagan Member of Parliament.
“Reject. We will reject it unanimously,” he said when met by reporters outside Parliament.
Lim, who is also the Penang Chief Minister, said there were issues that worried the Opposition about the TPPA.
“We worry about the future of the small and medium industries (SMIs) of which we expect 30%-40% to close shop.
“We also worry about the possibility of state governments being dragged to court and the rise of prices of medicines, intellectual property and so forth.”
He said the people no longer trusted the government when they made promises about TPPA following the burden placed on the people by the goods and services tax (GST).
“They promised that GST would recover the economy and ensure prices would reduce but what happened was the opposite.
“It has burdened the lives of people and the economy. GST is truly a kecelakaan (curse).”
Lim also praised the capability of International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed. But, he added, it seemed as if only , knew about the TPPA.
“His other ministers and deputy ministers do not know about TPPA and they have not had sessions to explain it.
“It is clear that only Tok Pa (Mustapa) understands this, so what happens if he is not around?
“He is one man and one man cannot make national policies,” said Lim.
