ALOR STAR, Jan 26, 2016:

The Kedah Council of Regency said today it is non-partisan in the ongoing political crisis in the state and advised the parties involved to resolve the matter by themselves. The council also advised these parties to use the existing channels to resolve any dissatisfaction or problem, said Comptroller of the Kedah Royal Household/Principal Private Secretary of the Sultan of Kedah, Datuk Paduka Syed Unan Mashri Syed Abdullah. He said in a statement that the council advised the parties involved to find a solution prudently and not involve the people who, at this time, needed attention and leadership from all the leaders. “The members of the Kedah Council of Regency have taken note of the news on the ongoing political unrest in Kedah. The Council of Regency emphasises that the members are neutral (in the matter) and refrain from supporting or favouring any faction or side,” he said. Syed Unan Mashri said the council wanted all quarters to maintain calm and patience in facing the political crisis. The crisis erupted on Jan 20 after several Kedah leaders openly expressed no-confidence in the leadership of Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir as the Menteri Besar and chairman of the Kedah Umno liaison committee.
