The South Indian film world has lost a versatile actress with the death of Kalpana Ranjani, more popularly known as Kalpana, on Jan 25.
The 51-year-old Malayalee actress who has made a name for herself not only in Malayalam films but also in other south Indian language movies was brought dead to the Apollo Hospital from her hotel room.
According to a report in the Indian Express, she was found unconscious in her hotel room and is believed to have suffered a heart attack.
Kalpana, who had acted in 300-odd films in South Indian languages, had won the Best Supporting Actress award for her performance in a Malayalam film in 2012, the Indian Express report added.
Sister of film actresses Urvashi and Kalaranjini, Kalpana was known mainly as a comic actress in the industry.
